David S writes: Liz, Phil, Andrew, Nigel and set off from Brookside at 9.30am in sunshine and a breezy north-easterly. We made rendezvous with Eva and Jim at the Fulbourn mini-roundabout. Some summer bikes – and matching shorts- were in evidence, but most of us were protected against the chill wind by winter attire.
The seven of us set off along a busy Six Mile Bottom road, but once we turned off for Weston Colville, the rest of the route was relatively traffic-free. We saw one other, large group of cyclists, and many cyclists in ones and twos.

The stop was at the village sign in Kedington, with coffee and cakes (and bananas) from the village shop nearby. Nigel remembered to take the obligatory photo.
Our picnic spot in KedingtonI was the slowest (and oldest) member of the group, so employed the military tactic of 'leading from the back'. This failed only once, between the Camps, when a turning was missed, but a parallel road soon had us back on track.
Andrew peeled off for Saffron Walden, Phil for Barrington and Eva and Jim at Fulbourn, for Waterbeach. The more experienced members were somewhat entertained by my route from Fulbourn to Cambridge, but mutiny was narrowly avoided by my peeling off at Brooks Road.
I had promised a Moderate 12mph (if wind-free), 50 mile ride. My Garmin recorded 49.9 miles and a 12.2mph average.
It was good to be out on a club ride again - and to see faces not seen for over a year! David Secher
