Members of CTC Cambridge are invited to join our email mailing list.
It is mainly used for announcements from club officers, including last-minute changes to our rides. It is also used by ride leaders to make provide extra information about a ride, such as the planned route.
If you don't join the mailing list you may miss out on these announcements, though will always ensure that our website is kept updated with any last-minute changes or cancellations.
In addition, members can use the mailing list to ask questions, take part in discussions, or make their own announcements. For example members sometimes use it to invite others to join them for a personal ride. When you send an email to the list, a copy of the email will be sent to all the other members.
The volume of messages is low, typically just a few each week.
The mailing list is provided by Google Groups. It works in conjunction with a Google account, which gives you the additional option of using the CTC Cambridge mailing list web page to view and send messages and to configure your settings.
To join the group, go to the CTC Cambridge mailing list web page and follow the following steps:
As a group member, in addition to receiving messages sent by others, you can send messages yourself. To send a message to the everyone in the group, simply send an email to ctc-cambridge.googlegroups.com. Any messages you send must be sent using the email address you used when signing up.
If you have difficulty in signing up or using the group, do let us know. You can send email to webmaster@ctccambridge.org.uk.
If you send an message to the group (either via email or using the Google Groups web interface) a copy of your message will be sent to all the other members of the group (apart from any who have configured their account not to receive email).
A copy of your message will also be retained by Google groups so that current and future members can read it using the web interface. Messages will not be visible to non-members of the group.
It is our intention that membership of the mailing list is restricted to local Cycling UK members and we ask anyone who join to supply their membership numbers.
It is our intention that messages sent to the group remain private to the group so that only group members can see them. We ask members to respect this and not forward messages to non-members of the group, or publish them anywhere else, without the permission of the individual who sent them. However we cannot guarantee that this will not happen and you should bear this in mind if you include personal information in any messages you send to the group.
The group is administered by the club's web officer: you can see who the current post holder is here. You can send them an email at webmaster@ctccambridge.org.uk.
Google groups maintains a list of the names and email addresses that are subscribed to the mailing list. When a message is sent to the group, Google uses this information to forward a copy of that message to all members. The web officer and club secretary have access to this information, which will be kept confidential.
If you are a member of the mailing list we will normally only contact you via announcements sent to the group. However we may contact you individually, using the email address you use to subscribe to the mailing list, if we need to contact you for a specific reason and it would be inappropriate to contact you via the group.
Information related to your membership of the mailing list is entirely separate from any information (including email preferences) you provide as part of your Cycling UK membership.
Simply joining the group does not disclose your name or email address to other members of the group (other than the web officer and secretary). However if you send an email to the group your email address will be visible to the other members when they receive your email.
You can unsubscribe from the mailing list at any time: this is entirely separate from your membership of the club. This will remove your email address from the list of members.
To unsubscribe from this group and stop receiving emails from it, send an email to ctc-cambridge+unsubscribe@googlegroups.com or contact the web officer.
This will not delete any messages you have previously sent: these will remain visible to members who use the web interface. If you would like your old messages to be deleted, contact the web officer and request this.
