Cycling UK has a long and illustrious history, founded in 1878 as the Bicycle Touring Club and subsequently re-named the Cyclists' Touring Club and now as Cycling UK.

Our Cambridge group was formed in 1921, and has been assembling for rides at Brookside since 1921. We continue to use the name CTC Cambridge.

Runs Committee

The runs committee is an informal group of members who help the runs secretary with the core job of planning a calendar of rides. Some members of the runs committee take the lead on planning one of the ride types and all members have an active role. The runs secretary collates and edits all the rides and has the final say on the ride details. Historically, we did the main planning at a face-to-face meeting, but these days we mostly work on-line using email.

New members of the runs committee are usually recruited during the AGM - contact the runs secretary if you are interested. Note that these are not elected positions and the membership is simply decided by the runs secretary. We aim to have a wide mix of people representing all our different club rides. The main qualification is to be an active member of the club.

The runs committee use a separate email group that includes both current and past members. Our main discussions concern the ride planning, including things like new stops and ride distances. But the group also provides a forum for discussion of other ride-related issues acting as an informal "focus group" for the wider membership. The runs secretary can then reflect any issues that are raised when reporting to the main club committee.
