This year's celebratory club tea, held on Sunday 17 September at Haslingfield Village Hall, was a great success, with approximately 50 members coming along to enjoy a fantastic spread of cakes, sandwiches and pizza.
Several rides converged on the village hall at around 3.30pm, ranging from a short family-friendly ride to a 100-mile challenge.
As people finished the feast, Cycling UK trustee John Jackson presented Greta Lumbers and Mike Stapleton with gold lifetime achievement awards from Cycling UK, recognising the huge contribution they have both made to CTC Cambridge over many years as committee members and ride leaders. Greta was jointly responsible for starting our rides on Thursdays, initially for women only. They are now among the club's most popular rides. John also paid tribute to Mike's in-depth knowledge of every road and turn as a ride leader.
Greta and Mike were then presented with a cake to celebrate them both turning 90 this year. Mike said after the event "I was delighted with my presentations and the cake. It was really nice to meet so many of my old friends."

A very big thank you to John S, Sue H, Angela T, Pip W and David T for organising the venue, the catering, and doing the serving and clearing up, and to all the ride leaders. As the event was such a success, the club is now planning to hold a similar event in mid-September every year, so block your 2024 calendar out now.
