Sarah writes: Fourteen riders joined the ride today, despite the forecast of yet another record breaking day of temperature. It was lovely to have riders who usually ride with the city group come and join in the fun!The ride to LJ's was fairly comfortable with light winds and not too extreme heat-yet!
After a half an hour stop in Gamlingay, 5 riders decided ( perhaps foolishly!) to carry on to Shuttleworth. It was a great route my 'Route Master' has given me, travelling along the cycle paths through the RSVB reserve in Sandy and up to Northill and onwards. ( Thank you Andy. He was otherwise engaged on a Norfolk beach with 2 grandsons). We arrived for an early lunch at Shuttleworth and sat in the shade until ready to …endure?….the ride back leaving shortly after 1pm.
Having been perfectly rideable until then, the heat steadily increased making an ice cream stop in Litlington an extremely good idea from Nick.
I left the group ( poor leadership!) in Melbourn as they all knew their route home and battled the last 13 miles home feeling like a fried egg.
I got home by 4pm having done 77 miles( 10 extra to the start). Thank you to everyone who joined me to made the day so enjoyable. Sarah
