On Saturday 5 July 2025 CTC Cambridge is organising the Cambridge Randonnées, in association with Audax UK. There are three distances to ride: 100km, 150km (which we'll extend slightly to 100 miles), and 200km.
Audax is a form of cycle touring where riders aim to visit a sequence of controls by following a set route. There isn't a leader; riders follow the route at their own pace, using either a printed routesheet or a GPX file provided by the organiser. People ride in groups, or solo, or a mixture of both (audaxers are a friendly bunch), It's not a race, although there is a generous time limit for completing the ride. Find out more.
All three events start in Haslingfield near Cambridge, at the Methodist Hall (location details), where you can enjoy a cuppa and a simple breakfast before you set off.
Please enter your chosen ride in advance using the links above. The cost is £12.50. No need to be an Audax UK (or CTC Cambridge) member.
The 200 km route and the 150 km (100 mile) route soon leave behind the Cambridge commuter belt villages and head out into Suffolk and Essex for rural lanes, pretty houses and delightful countryside. If you fancy stopping for food along the way there are cafes galore, including club favourites Maglia Rosso, The Blue Egg and Cafe 33.
The 100 km route heads out into Hertfordshire with some quiet roads and unexpected snickets that might surprise even the most local of riders. It continues through Ashwell (if it's really hot, pause for a quick paddle in the source of the river Cam) and on to Baldock. On this ride the Silver Ball at Reed will cater to your every deep-fried need, before winding through the Pelhams and onto Clavering.
On your arrival back from all three rides in Haslingfield, we'll have the kettle on and food waiting. And, this being Cambridge, there'll be chelsea buns for all! As the saying goes, CTC stands for "cafe-to-cafe" or "cake-to-cake"!
Haslingfield is south-west of Cambridge. The nearest stations are Cambridge (10 km / 6 miles), Foxton on the King's Cross line (5 km / 3 miles), and Whittlesford Parkway on the Liverpool Street line (10 km / 6 miles)
We last ran the Cambridge Randonnées in 2001, and these events visit the same country lanes as those rides.
The official Audax UK organiser for these rides is Yasmin, who writes "I've enjoyed audax so much that it's time to put something back! Hope to see you on the road :-)"
