The following committee roles are defined by Cycling UK
In addition the club has defined the following committee roles:
Runs secretary
The runs secretary is responsible for planning all the club rides and organising leaders for those rides. This work is now mostly done on-line using the website and email.
The runs secretary provides advice and support for our ride leaders, helping to plan routes if needed and helping new leaders get started. The runs secretary is also responsible for managing the cafe stops database and the route library on the club website.
Deputy runs secretary
The deputy runs secretary works closely with the runs secretary, sharing the workload of planning and organising rides and helping leaders. There is no fixed division of the work and it can be adjusted to suit different interests.
The deputy runs secretary is expected to be able to stand in for the runs secretary on occasions if needed, for example if the runs secretary is on holiday.
Technical officer (formerly web officer)
The technical officer is responsible for managing the website and any other internet tools used by the club, such as mailing lists.
They will work with the runs secretary to allow them to publish information about rides on the website. They will work with the publicity and promotions officer to allow them to create publish more general promotional content on the website.
This is primarily a technical role though there will be a overlap with these other posts which will be decided by the individuals concerned.
Publicity and promotions officer (formerly shared between the web officer and the registration and promotions officer)
The publicity and promotions officer is responsible for creating promotional and publicity material for the club which will be published on the website, on social media, on paper, and elsewhere.
This is primarily a "writing" role, supported and assisted by the technical officer as necessary.
Membership and registration (formerly part of registration and promotions officer)
The membership and registration officer is responsible for managing the club's rider registration procedures and ensuring that they meet the requirements of Cycling UK. The role also involves dealing with local membership enquiries, liaison with Cycling UK HQ about any membership issues, attracting new members, and welcoming new members to their local club when they join Cycling UK.
Social events officer
The social events officer is responsible for arranging social events for the club, and for getting views from members about the kinds of events they want. Examples could include a meal / event around Christmas, special days of rides/teas like the recent Centenary events at Wicken and Haslingfield, and other one-off meals, events, talks etc.
Note: We are open to people taking on a role without needing to be on the committee, or being on the committee as a general committee member. Talk to us about what would work for you if you are interested! Most of the committee work is conducted via email, with roughly four face-to-face committee meetings through the year.
