Liz writes: On Thursday 12 September I joined the village start from Haslingfield. I took part on this ride on a beautiful sunny morning led by Sheila commencing up the steep Barrington Hill. As is usual for me I only stayed with the group as far as coffee at Reed, returning to Cambridge with four others.
Edward reports how the ride went here. Today, however I had a good excuse for not participating all day, as I was also taking part in an evening women-only 'Breeze' ride of about 25 miles. I was saving my energy because the total mileage for my days cycling would be 68 miles - the longest daily ride I have achieved so far!!
My 'Breeze' ride started at The White Horse in Barton. There was a total of 7 of us, including the leader. We set off west into very strong low sunshine, which made it difficult at times to see the road and cyclists ahead. Our round trip took us via Haslingfield, Little Eversden, Toft, Hardwick and Coton, returning to the White Horse Inn for a refreshing drink, after which we headed home.
I am keen to see more women take part in cycling because of its great benefits, so I thought I'd write this brief report to tell others about these 'Breeze' cycle rides, and to invite people to pass it on to anyone they know who might prefer to ride with a women-only group.
Breeze rides are coordinated by British Cycling and are for women only. It is a very simple process to sign up for a ride in your area: just visit
www.letsride.co.uk/breeze and type in your postcode to see the rides in your area. The rides are all graded and there are rides suitable for beginners as well as challenging rides suitable for those who require a longer or tougher ride.
