Alex Writes: A lovely sunny day, but with a cooling breeze which meant it wasn't quite shirtsleeve order. 12 members came out for a ride today. Here is a selection of photos from the ride.

The earlier (9 am) start gives scope for a little more distance before coffee than on our winter rides. I threw in some undulations to ensure we earned our cake.

Nick W (riding fixed) sprinted ahead on the climb up the Elmdon turn, and took photos us us enjoying the ascent.

When we arrived in Saffron Walden there was plenty of Space at the Bicicletta Café. After the usual comings and goings, seven of us carried on to lunch. Nick rode with us part way, but split off to cycle to London.

I had devised a route to take us down rural lanes to the south of Thaxted before looping round for lunch. At one point they were a little
too rural – on an unmade track by Duck End Farm there was a deep puddle that could not be avoided. It claimed one victim: sorry Eva for your soggy foot!

Approaching lunch
As usual we took a very pleasant lunch at the Blue Egg in Gt Bardfield, and then cycled back to Cambridge fairly directly. It remained gloriously sunny, though always with a cooling breeze to remind us it is still April.
When I got home I found I had cycled
112 km (70 miles).

Great route Alex. The day was deceptively sunny, I had to apply after-sun lotion afterwards!
