Nigel writes: Today was quite a windy day. Although it was forecast to become quieter as the evening progressed, the weather clearly put everyone else off, and I was the only person to turn up. Despite the cold blustery breeze I was keen to have a ride, so I rode my planned route anyway.
My route this evening was an "anti-clockwise Dullingham". This involved riding down Hills Road to Addenbrooke's, climbing the Gogs to Fulbourn and then heading out east via the Wilbraham to Six Mile Bottom. The wind was mostly from the south-west so I had a tailwind to push me along and I made rapid progress.
At Six Mile Bottom I turned right and then left onto the lane that climbs up past Wadlows Farm and over Chilly Hill to West Wratting. Here I turned onto the B1052 for a fast descent - still with the wind behind me - through Brinkley and Dullingham. Somewhere after Brinkley it began to rain, not particularly heavily, and continued to do so for a further 30 minutes or so.
At Dullingham I turned west towards the station where I was forced to stop for a few minutes at the level crossing before continuing on to Swaffham Bulbeck.
At the manual crossing at Dullingham Station, waiting for the 2000 to Harwich to pass by
It was only when I reached Swaffham Bulbeck and turned west towards Bottisham and Quy that I found myself riding directly into the wind, but I didn't have far to go now and arrived at The White Swan in Quy at 8.32pm.
I hadn't planned to stop, so after quickly checking that there were no bikes outside I carried on back into Cambridge via Fen Ditton and Ditton meadows. I arrived home a little after 9pm, having cycled
35 miles.
