CTC Cambridge was formed in 1921 and we were proud to celebrate our 100th anniversary in 2021. We are a local group of the national charity Cycling UK, whose history goes back to 1878. History of Cycling UK.
Since the early days of the club, our rides have started from Brookside, a street on the southern edge of Cambridge City Centre, and many of our rides continue to depart from there. We assemble by the bench at the corner with Lensfield Road, in front of the Hobson's Conduit monument. There is a plaque on the bench to commemorate our connection to it.
For many years we published regular printed "runs lists" which listed upcoming rides, before putting them online in 2010. Read about Sixty years of runs lists, from 1957 to the present day.
We have a fascinating set of photos taken by a club member of CTC Cambridge in the 1930s, showing that rides back then had many similarities to now, including punctures, but fewer cars.
The club has several trophies. The most impressive is the Len Nice memorial trophy, which is still awarded to the member who has done the most for the club during the past year. The Len Nice memorial trophy commemorates those club members who lost their lives in the 1939-1945 war and is named after a popular club member whose ship was sunk in 1944.
