Neil writes: I arrived at Brookside to find Tiia, Julia and John huddled under a tree in the pouring rain. Luckily, it eased after a few minutes and we decided to make a break for it, heading off down Barton Road. We stopped for a few moments near Wolfson College to collect Jacob, then continued along a familiar route through Haslingfield, Shepreth and Meldreth. I'd decided to continue via Bassingbourn and then turned northwards onto the quiet roads leading to Shingay and Croydon (the 'scenic route', as Jacob put it). The rain had long since stopped and we were lucky enough to see some sunshine. After a final push up the 10% gradient of Croydon hill, we settled into the long downhill to Gamlingay, and arrived at the pub to meet the two survivors of the day ride, plus Mike, who'd come independently.
