More than 50 people attended the CTC Cambridge Centenary Tea in Wicken on Sunday 12th September. Tea was served all afternoon with a scrumptious selection of cakes and sandwiches giving plenty of time to chat and relax.
There were led rides of 35 miles, together with Metric and Imperial Century rides (100km and 100miles). You can read more about these rides in the reports from Ray, Fiona and Yasmin.
Inside the hall was a display of club photos from 1933 to the present day, and a sample of the glass lantern slides from past Club President Donnex Claydon's collection.
We had perfect weather for the event with no wind or rain to hamper the cyclists. Sunshine throughout the afternoon meant that people could have tea and socialise outside in the open air. Rides of different lengths arrived at different times through the afternoon, so everyone had a chance to meet everyone else as different riders gradually arrived.
After 18 months of riding separately in smaller groups, it was wonderful to have an opportunity for people across the whole club to get together again, and hear the contented sound of massed cake eating.
Thanks to Ray and Simon for coming up with the initial idea for the event, to Sue for organising the catering, to Rupert and his ride leaders for designing and leading the rides, and to the wonderful team of club volunteers who helped get the hall ready and serve the teas. We are planning other celebrations to mark the club's Centenary year, so there will be more opportunities to meet up throughout the year. We'd welcome feedback and ideas for any future events to contact@ctccambridge.org.uk.
