Nigel writes: A fine, if rather cold, autumn morning brought our a good turnout for today's ride, with a total of ten riders assembling at the start. Our leader today was Alex, who led us there along a fairly direct route: west out of Cambridge along the Barton Road cycleway to Barton and then along the B1042 to Bourn.

The temperature was distinctly cold for the first hour or two, and possibly for the first time this winter my fingers and toes tingles slightly. This encouraged me to put on a burst of speed to help me warm up.

With a fairly large group (by Sunday standards) we separated out into faster and smaller groups along the main road, though by the time I had passed Bouurn and turned onto the road to Caxton I found myself alone off the front. Alone, that is, except for about half a dozen riders from other clubs who were using the same road.
I decided to stay ahead of the others and arrived at the coffee stop at Potton Cricket Club about ten minutes ahead of the others.

After coffee several riders turned back for home, leaving about half a dozen to carry on to lunch in Baldock. This was a particularly pleasant section of the ride, with some very pleasant lanes (and an unexpected ford) to Ashwell and across rolling chalklands to Baldock.

After lunch at Tapp's Garden Centre we set off back home via Sandon, Reed and the B1368.
