John writes: Simon (leader), David, Neil and I set off from Brookside at 1.30pm. Fine weather and a WSW breeze promised an easy ride home. Predictably Simon introduced a short stretch of off-road cycling from Grantchester to Roman Hill (near Barton). It was very enjoyable to be able to cycle out of traffic through fine countryside: the track was benign and negotiable on any type of tyre.
Brookside
Between Barton and Shepreth many LEL riders sped towards us benefiting from a following wind.
More traffic-free cycling through Wimpole Park and then the quiet lanes through the villages to Steeple Morden, where Simon D from Cambourne joined us, brought us to the Parish Church Room just before 4pm. There we were greeted by Jacob who had cycled independently. No other cyclists were present although many other riders had called in earlier. Fortunately an ample supply of cakes remained.

Tea in Ashwell
After an enjoyable tea we six returned together taking a direct route through Bassingbourn and over Chapel Hill. Strava recorded my home to home distance of
46 miles.
