John writes: Surely I'm not leading another Sunday afternoon in the rain? (See my reports of
27 July 2015 and
23 August 2015).
Simon was the back-marker for today's ride but this was hardly necessary, there being only two of us. At Bourn the rain had almost ceased so we resisted the temptation of curtailing the ride by going to Green's in Cambourne for a very early tea or after-lunch coffee. This might have been a mistake for at Knapwell the rain resumed in torrents.
At the A1096 crossing we agreed to abandon the planned tea stop in Houghton and instead go to the Riverside Café at St Ives where we enjoyed cream teas. This café is now refurbished with waitress-service. During the tea stop the rain ceased and the sun came out so we enjoyed a vigorous ride back to Cambridge beside the busway. Strava had recorded my home-to-home distance as
36 miles.
