David S writes: Nine of us (Averil, Simon, Mike K, John F, Peter W, Ann K, Stuart D, new member Sid and me) set off from Brookside to be joined by Lalli and Mark at Rutherford Road. I was the leader today. A technical issue with the leader's glove delayed the start by five minutes and the leader had forgotten to phone the tea stop, so there was another delay at Long Road.
In warm sunshine we made good progress to Bartlow via Sawston, Babraham and Linton, following the same route as the June ride to West Wratting.
At Bartlow however the leader decided, in view of the delayed start (see above), the temperature, and most importantly the wish not to keep the all-day riders waiting, as we had in June, to take the short cut directly to West Wratting, missing out the Shudy Camps loop.
So we arrived at tea fifteen minutes early and the leader only just managed to keep the riders off the tempting sandwiches until 4pm. The all-day ride arrived around 4.30, minus one breakdown. The unannounced change in numbers caused some concern at the pub but the day was saved by the generosity of Mark. A malfunction of the leader's GPS (operator error) means that there are no ride statistics, but I estimate that the ride was around 35 miles.
No-one took photos, but the tone and volume of the conversations suggested that everyone enjoyed a gentle ride on a lovely sunny afternoon!
