John F writes: This was my first "shorter" Sunday afternoon ride and from the numbers gathered at Brookside I deduced that they are extremely popular. Eva, the day's leader, had chosen an excellent route with a high point on the Magog of 71m and a low of 3m in the flat fens with varied scenery.
At the start
Leading such a large group is not easy and having divided us into two to reduce delays to overtaking vehicles we set off reaching the Anglesey Abbey café on schedule at 4pm precisely and no-one had fallen by the wayside or been lost.
Since my last visit the al fresco eating area, where we all enjoyed refreshment and each other's company, had been expanded considerably. The return route was the direct one using the new cycle path into Stow-cum-Quy a few of us then opting for the quiet route into Fen Ditton and by the river but the majority surprisingly headed directly into the City.
Strava recorded my home-to-home distance of
49 kms.
