Nigel writes: Today was a rather wintry evening, with a strong - and rather chilly - southerly breeze and patches of rain that became rather heavy on occasions. Despite the unpromising conditions I was joined by two other riders for this evening's ride, with Tom setting off with me from Brookside and Yasmin joining us along the way at Whittlesford.
So it was a definitely "type 2" ride this evening, particularly for the first part of the ride when we were heading south into the wind, and even more so for the long climb from Chrishall Grange to Chrishall when the rain started to come down rather heavily. However the rain stopped by the time we reached the turn at Great Chishill, from where we were able to enjoy a long, fast descent to Flint Cross, with just about enough daylight remaining to allow us to spot potholes on the way down.
We reached The Plough in Shepreth at 8.30pm and went inside for some well-deserved food and drink.
For the journey home I offered the dull but easy option of the A10 cycleway but I was gratified to find that both my companions voted for Chapel Hill instead. With the wind behind us we made rapid progress back to Cambridge where the three of us dispersed. I arrived home just after 10pm, having cycled 56km (
34 miles)
