Neil writes: I was met at Brookside by seven other riders. Our route out of Cambridge followed the old National Cycle Network route through Girton, Oakington, Longstanton, Swavesey and Fen Drayton, as far as Fenstanton. There we turned south and crossed the A14 using the underpass and continued on the road to Hilton. We saw the works for the A14 construction project as we passed (apparently there was a closure on this road recently, but it had been reopened by today).
At the start
From Hilton, we took the road toward Graveley, passed through Toseland, and entered St Neots from the north. We arrived at the cafe shortly after four o'clock, and found that the all-day group had arrived earlier, and were just about to leave. After tea, we returned to Cambridge via Abbotsley, Great Gransden, Caxton, Bourn and Comberton. The forecast heavy rain turned out just to be a shower, and I was back in Cambridge at around 6.30pm, having ridden 83.9 km (52 miles) with 308m ascent.
