John writes: Good winter cycling weather, only slightly marred by a stiff westerly breeze, tempted seven members to join Ray for the 1pm ride to Anglesey Abbey. Our peloton was immediately reduced to five as a breakaway group of three formed from the off.
We winkled our way to Cherry Hinton, in the main on cycle tracks and footpaths. Thence it was Fulbourn Old Drift through Fulbourn. At Queen's Farm we emerged into the countryside. From Wilbraham I had expected the direct route via Bottisham.

However Ray, our leader, had other plans. John E left us to make his own way directly to Anglesey Abbey, leaving four of us to continue in an easterly direction along the Brinkley Road, turning left after crossing the A1304 at Six Mile Bottom towards Dullingham. The stiff wind was now in our face as we headed to Swaffham Bulbeck and the Abbey, arriving there at exactly 4pm.
It being a snowdrop weekend the tea-room was crowded but after 15 minutes or so queueing we were served and managed to find a table for our re-grouped squad.

After tea we returned to Cambridge via the new cycle path into Quy. This was my first time I had used it and is a great improvement. It avoids the main carriageway crowded with cars leaving the Abbey and Sunday shoppers returning from Cambridge. From the Fen Ditton turn we began to disperse to our various homes.
My home-to-home journey, as recorded by Strava, was
33 miles, although it felt longer. Thanks to Ray for planning and leading this ride.
