Greg writes:
The boy stood on the burning deck
whence all but he had fled.
He wondered if they've all decided
to get on their bikes instead?
It so turned out that eight had done
exactly as he thought:
At one o'clock we all set off -
ride on time, just as we ought!
Gathering at Brookside
And so past Kings and o'er the Cam
The merry band set out
Westwards from the City
Stopping only when they heard a shout
It's all gone soft cried Lally
Her rear tyre now was flat
Mark leapt into dynamic action
Whilst the rest they had a chat
Madingley was grey and cold
We all were waiting now
For Mark to find the hissing leak
And get us going again somehow
Averil advises!
Job done we all set off
Mick our new member too
It's not usually quite like this
We told him and he said 'Phew!'
Oh no, what's this, a further hiss
From Lally's tyre once more
A second flat, what chance of that?
It's happened to us before
A spare tube fitted we saddled up
And so rode forth again
But now the weather and the cold
Were causing us some pain
A change of plan exclaimed our leader
To Haslingfield we rode
Where tea and cake and coffee
Helped warm our hands and toes
Yummy cakes
Real leaf tea (tell Ray!)
The cakes were great, the tea leaves real
Ray would be so impressed!
Sue said farewell and went uphill
And was Cambridge for the rest
A new route back, perhaps busway?
It seemed a good idea
So off we went at quite a pace
Homeward with good cheer
A shortened ride, some 30 miles
Was fun for all who rode
If any folk missed out this time
On Thursday it's off to Lode!
Thanks to all who came to play
New member and the rest
I think I will end this doggerel now
As rhyming is not something I am any good at!
