Nigel writes: After last week's rather cool and autumnal ride, tonight felt like late summer: warm, dry and sunny, with only the time of sunset reminding us that it was now September. My companions this evening were Gareth, Neil and Jim and Sven. I arrived at Brookside expecting a ride to SIx Mile Bottom and Dullingham, but Gareth suggested we went for a ride in the fens instead and the rest of us were happy to take up the suggestion.
Our route this evening took east to Quy and then via Bottisham and the Lodes Way to Wicken Fen.
Wicken Fen just before sunset
By the time we reached Wicken the sun was just about to set so we turned on our lights before turning west towards Upware and then back south to Swaffham Prior. There was very little wind this evening and speeds were high, with Gareth and Sven taking turns at the front of a little peloton for much of the journey back.
Just before 8.30pm we arrived in Quy where we stopped for drinks and bowls of chips at The White Swan. Afterwards we returned back to Cambridge via Fen Ditton and Ditton Meadows. I arrived back home at 9.30pm, having cycled
35 miles.
