Nigel writes: Tonight was another fine autumn evening, cool, dry and, until the sun set, bright and sunny. My companions for this evening's ride were Gareth, Jim, Sven and John E. As usual, we spent a few minutes at the start confirming the pub stop and agreeing on a route before setting off south on the usual route through the Shelfords, Whittlesford, Duxford and Ickleton to Coploe Hill. Soon Gareth was disappearing off into the distance, with me following behind with Sven and Jim.

All four of us were riding quite fast this evening, which allowed us to take an extra loop over Transmitter Hill and the along the B1039 as far as the foot of Elmdon Hill. By now the sun had set and it began to get dark. After Elmdon, a rapid traverse to Hertford Lane End (where we found John, who had taken a shorter route) was followed by an equally fast descent to Chrishall Grange. We crossed the A505 to Fowlmere and a few minutes later arrived in Thriplow where we stopped for drinks at The Green Man.

After a pleasant half hour in the pub we set off back to Cambridge. This was another fast ride through Newton, Little Shelford and Great Shelford and then along the DNA path and busway, illuminated by the golden light of a newly-risen "
supermoon". I arrived home just before 9.30pm, having cycled
36 miles.
