Tina writes: The weather couldn't have been more perfect for cycling this morning - blue skies, peppered with a few light clouds, very little wind and warm enough for shorts, without being too hot. I arrived at Brookside with son Robbie about 9.50am to find Yasmin waiting on the bench and we were soon joined by new rider Kirsty. Julia and Ian appeared on the dot of 10am to complete a surprisingly small group on such a beautiful morning.
Julia led us southwards down Trumpington Road, tuning off at Porson Road and through to Long Road and the guided busway path. We followed this all the way to Trumpington and then along the cycle path by the A10, crossing over to take the Hauxton turn and on to Little Shelford. Here we turned south towards Whittlesford, enjoying the quiet roads flanked by farmland, mostly displaying golden post-harvest stubble.
We crossed the A505 and cycled down through Duxford village. The cool, wet summer has helped to prolong flowering and many gardens were ablaze with colourful annuals. At the church, we turned left for a loop through Hinxton, where the ford looked deceptively shallow, but no-one was prepared to risk an impromptu dip!
From Hixton, it was a short hop to Ickleton and just beyond the village to Riverside Barns, unusually crowded with people enjoying coffee and cakes in the sun. Bob and Myrtle were among the customers, having cycled out from Royston and we chatted to them while waiting for our drinks to arrive.
After a relaxing break, Julia, Ian, Yasmin and Kirsty set off back towards Cambridge, while Robbie and I decided to burn off some of our flapjack on Coploe Hill! Bob and Myrtle were taking the 'low road' at their own pace, though were not far behind us cycling down to Chrishall Grange, Fowlmere and across to Melbourn.
Robbie and I had cycled just over
30 miles and imagine the Cambridge contingent clocked up a similar mileage.
Thanks to a blooming Julia for leading us this morning and hope Yasmin and Kirsty enjoyed the ride and will join us again.

Thanks, Tina, for writing the report, and for the photos, too! :) It was a very nice ride, indeed - Yasmin and Kirsty left us at Sawston and Shelford, respectively, and by the time Ian and I got home we had done 30 miles, too.
