Nigel writes: Tonight's ride took place on a perfect August evening: warm, sunny and still, so I was slightly surprised that there were only five of us at Brookside. We set off south to Long Road where we joined the busway cycleway to Addenbrooke's and the DNA path to Great Shelford, from where we took the road through Little Shelford, Whittlesford and Duxford to Ickleton. The speed was quite fast but nowhere as frenetic as it has been on some recent rides. At Ickleton we climbed Coploe Hill where four of us stopped for the obligatory photo.
We dropped down the hill and turned right onto Royston Lane before turning left to Elmdon. From here we climbed and then dropped down again to Chrishall Grange.
We arrived at the Green Man in Thriplow at 8.15, fifteen minutes early. Last time we had visited this pub the chef had been sick and there was no food, but today a full menu was in operation. We ordered drinks and bowls of chips which we enjoyed whilst sitting outside in the final minutes of sunshine. We decided we rather like this pub: it is very friendly, the food looks good and we can sit outside in a tranquil village setting. We will be back next month.
Afterwards we returned back to Cambridge via Newston, Harston, Trumpington P&R and the busway cycleway once more. I was home by 9.30pm, having cycled
32 miles.
