Nigel writes: Warm and sunny weather brought out six riders for this evening's ride: Gareth, John E, Chris, Tiia, Paul and me. We set off east out of Cambridge along the river to Fen Ditton and Quy. From here we continued to Bottisham and Swaffham Prior where we turned east for the slight climb to Dullingham. Conditions were perfect: sunny, warm (but not hot), and the slight breeze was behind us. As usual Gareth set a brisk pace, but stopped periodically to allow the rest of us to catch up.
At Dullingham we all turned south-west. When we reached the turn to Westley Bottom, Paul and I think John turned right towards the railway crossing and Six Mile Bottom, whilst Gareth, Chris, Tiia and me continuing for a longer loop via Chilly Hill before also reaching Six Mile Bottom.
Gareth led another high-speed blast from Six Mile Bottom to Little Wilbraham from where it was a just short distance to Great Wibraham. We reached our planned stop at the Carpenters Arms in ten minutes early at 8.20pm. Here we were all reunited once more. Already in the pub was Tony, who had done a loop via Reach.
As we sat in the pub chatting and enjoying our drinks we noticed that the wind outside had increased and the weather was on the turn. By the time we left it was raining quite hard, and it was a case of cycling home as quickly as we could. The contrast between the earlier warm sunshine was remarkable. Fortunately we didn't have far to go, and I arrived home at 9.20pm, soaking wet and rather cold, having cycled
31 miles.
