Tina Filby writes:There were six riders at Brookside this morning, George, Clive, Bob, Tina and new riders Leon and Craig. Despite a doubtful, showery forecast, warm sun shone through broken cloud as we set off down Fen Causeway and took the cycle path that runs alongside the A603 to Barton. Turning off towards Haslingfield, we passed the distinctive row of radio astronomy 'dishes' and then continued along the road through Haslingfield and Harlton and back up to cross the A603 into the Eversdens.
Cherry and crab apple trees laden with pink blossom lined the road through the villages and wafts of scented lilac confirmed that Spring has finally arrived. Between villages, flowering rapeseed cut a bright yellow swathe across the countryside.
From Great Eversden, we climbed a gentle hill to Kingston and then Toft, where a short cut along Church Lane brought us out almost opposite the turning north to Hardwick. Just beyond the village, we joined the cycle path alongside the A1303, riding downhill past the American Cemetery and finally turning into the Polhill Garden Centre at Coton. We sat chatting in warm sunshine and tucked into various well-earned cakes & buns. The final homeward leg took us along the Coton cycle path back into Cambridge – a favourite family route, judging by the number of small cyclists out with their parents. Using George's computer, we estimated our ride had covered about
20 miles.
